Graduate Studies Office

Welcome message from the Director of Graduate Studies

I am Professor Erik Knudsen, Director of Graduate Studies, and I am responsible for The Graduate Studies Office, which is situated within the Research and Graduate College. I would like to welcome you to the web portal for postgraduate students and hope that you will find the information, guidance and advice available here of use.

We are here to help you in a number of ways and there is a small dedicated team in the office to help make your experience at Salford fruitful, fulfilling and successful. Linda Kelly is my PA, Victoria Sheppard is the Research Skills Coordinator, Cristina Costa is the Learning Technologies Development Officer, Jaye McIsaac is the Educational Developer and Graduate Teaching Assistantship (GTA) Coordinator and Fiona Christie is our Careers Advisor/Coordinator.

In conjunction with your schools and research centres, our role is to help encourage best research practice, supervision and training across disciplines. We feel it important to maintain a strong postgraduate research community and in part we achieve this by providing a number of contexts and opportunities where research students can interact and engage with each other. Initiatives we run include the Salford Postgraduate Research Training programme (SPoRT), which offers a comprehensive and complimentary training programme for postgraduate researchers, and the Salford Postgraduate Annual Research Conference (SPARC), which offers an excellent opportunity for students to publicise and test their research, to develop interdisciplinary awareness and to engage with their fellow students across a range of disciplines.

We are here to help, so please don’t hesitate to contact the office if you require any guidance or advice or simply want to pass on good ideas.

Professor Erik Knudsen
