Zainab Abuelmaatti
Zainab Abuelma'atti completed her PhD Translation and cultural representation : globalizing texts, localizing cultures in 2005. She is now based in Saudi Arabia and is an Assistant Professor. She gives the following advice to students:
“Put your heart into the PhD, and be honest. Once you have successfully completed your PhD, you are at the top of your field so, whenever possible, don’t choose a job just for its salary. It is better to apply for jobs that will best utilize your skills. The money will come later. I enjoy teaching because it is an exciting career, but it can also be a daunting one. I am gaining experience in teaching techniques, exam writing skills and assessing syllabi. In the future, I plan to publish more articles and do more research.
I chose to study at Salford because it was renowned for its translation department. The clear advantage of a career related to translation is that a translator will always be demand as long as there are languages.”
